The Mathematical Institute of the university if Freiburg hosts my research group since 2008. On the one hand, we like to do interdisciplinary teaching and research more than some of our colleagues. On the other hand, we always come back to probability theory as my main focus of thought.

Research

My research follows three main goals:

  1. Probability theory is fundamental to various fields in the life sciences. Applications we work on include population genetics, forensic genetics and neuroscience.
  2. Describing stochastic processes as well as their convergence can be studied via (so-called) martingale problems. We aim at developing new convergence results using this technique.
  3. In recent years, mathematicians can formalize theorems at the forefront of research using the Lean Theorem prover. We aim at extending the probability section of the corresponding library.

Projects

Research subjects

  • Probabilistic modeling in the life sciences
  • Population genetics
  • Chemical reaction networks
  • Markov processes
