Topic and history of the workshop

Shape analysis is an inter-disciplinary area of research with applications in medical imaging, evolutionary development, and fluid dynamics. The workshop brings together researchers in this field to discuss promising new directions. It is the 6th instance of a series of workshops, which were held at the following locations:

• Math on the Beach – Shape Analysis Workshop in Foxton Beach, New Zealand, 2013.
• Math in the Cabin – Shape Analysis Workshop in Bad Gastein, Austria, 2014. (website)

Format of the workshop

• Presentations
  • Informal and short presentations: 1 flip chart (back & front) per person, no slides, 20 minutes.
  • Research questions are preferred to solved problems.
  • Plenty of time for collaboration. 
• Catering
  • This is a self-catering accommodation.
  • If you volunteer for being the chef for one of the dinners, please say so.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be kept simple. 
  • Let us know of any dietary restrictions.
• Excursions
  
  • Dinner at Raimartihof (45 minutes walking, 100m altitude difference).

Problem challenge

• Klas Modin cannot join us this time, unfortunately, but together with Stephen Marsland he is sharing with us a problem challenge.

Transportation

• Timing:
  • Try to be at the hut on Monday July 16 before noon. It might be nice to spend Sunday evening together in Freiburg.
  • Try not to leave the hut before Sunday July 22 at noon.

  • Flight to Basel, airport bus from Basel to Freiburg (45min, 20€)
  • Flight to Zurich, train from Zurich to Freiburg (2h, 60€)
  • Flight to Frankfurt, train from Frankfurt to Freiburg (2h, 70€)
• Getting from Freiburg to Hinterzarten:
  • Train from Freiburg to Hinterzarten (30min, 5€, group tickets available)
• Getting from Hinterzarten to the hut:
